Dentures offer a practical solution for those missing all teeth to restore oral function and enhance aesthetics.

Dentures can improve your quality of life by:

  • Restoring Oral Function: Dentures enable you to eat, speak, and smile with confidence, restoring essential oral functions.
  • Enhancing Aesthetics: By replacing missing teeth, dentures improve facial appearance and restore a natural-looking smile.

Drs. Tropmann and Oyster specialize in fabricating both conventional dentures and overdentures, including implant placement when appropriate. From initial consultation to final restoration, we are dedicated to restoring your smile and improving your quality of life with dentures.

Types of Dentures

There are different types of dentures available, including conventional dentures and overdentures:

  • Conventional Dentures: These removable prostheses replace missing teeth and are typically held in place by suction and muscle control.
  • Overdentures: Overdentures are supported either by implants or natural teeth with locator attachments. They offer increased stability compared to conventional dentures and are particularly recommended for the replacement of lower teeth.

The process of obtaining dentures involves several steps:

  • Consultation: A comprehensive assessment is conducted to determine the best denture option for your unique needs.
  • Extraction of Remaining Teeth: If necessary, any remaining teeth are extracted to prepare for denture placement.
  • Impressions and Bite Registration: Detailed impressions of the upper and lower jaw, along with a bite registration, are taken to ensure proper fit and function.
  • Wax-Try In and Final Alterations: A wax try-in of the denture is performed to assess fit and appearance. Final adjustments are made as needed.
  • Delivery of Denture: Once the denture meets your satisfaction, it is delivered, and additional adjustments may be made for optimal comfort.

Denture Care and Maintenance

To maintain the longevity and function of your dentures, it's essential to follow proper care instructions:

  • Cleaning: Remove your dentures daily and gently clean them with a soft bristle brush and a nonabrasive cleaner, such as warm water and soap. Allow your dentures to soak in a denture cleanser according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Oral Hygiene: Clean your mouth thoroughly after removing and cleaning the dentures, ensuring to remove any adhesive residue.
  • Regular Checkups: Schedule regular dental checkups, at least once a year, at our Raleigh dental office to assess the fit and condition of your dentures.

Dietary Considerations: Avoid consuming foods or liquids that may stain or damage your dentures, such as red wine, beets, coffee, sticky candy, nuts, and popcorn.
